All Hail the King
King Gabriel LXXVII Dewitt Clinton David arrived at City Club for a little kingly repast before float time. Elite members of the Mardi Gras krewe dined royally indeed before proceeding to the parade start, among them president of the Greater Southwest Mardi Gras Association Robert Foard, former Queen Evangeline Leanne Saloom Howell and past Gabriel Kaliste Saloom Jr., last year’s monarch P.J. Voorhies, Tommy Hightower and Corky Hutchison, who has an amethyst necklace fit for a queen. By the way, this King Gabriel may go down in history as our favorite — he blew The Advocate a kiss during the parade.
Victoria Preparade Party
Victoria gathered once more, as is their tradition, at the home of grande dame Ann Knight for some pre-parade face paint and frolic. Not even high winds deterred the wigs, and members signed contracts for the signature red satin tops. “Some were lost last year,” explained Tish Johnson. Ladies, if this was New Orleans, we could understand.
