The Petroleum Club hosted Zonta of Lafayette’s infamous “Save Ze Ta-Taz” art bra auction and fundraiser for the Breast Health Symposium. For those who don’t know, art bras are like art cars — an object that has had its appearance modified as an act of personal artistic expression. Judges JoAnn Miller and Michele Landry chose ‘Pink Flower Garden’ by Jamie Meche as their favorite. ‘Stamp Out’ by Aimee Yandle came in a close second, and ‘Two Sisters,’ an entry by the staff of St. Bernadette’s, took third. At the uplifting event were Karen Lestelle, Carla Carr of The Breast Center, Mary Neiheisel, Mary Ann Wilson, Bob and Kathy Cox, survivors Faye Boyce and Toni Stelly and lucky Zonta scholarship recipients Katie Leger and Savannah Trumps. We’re not sure how the judges managed to overlook FM Bank’s entry with Sen. Fred Mills’ portrait attached, but there you are. Mills showed up later in person to auction off the art bras — a tough job, but someone’s got to do it.
