Retail sales for April in Lafayette Parish were 5 percent below sales for April 2014, the Lafayette Economic Development Authority reported Friday.
April 2015 sales came in at about $494 million, compared with $522 million for April 2014, according to figures from LEDA.
Year-to-date sales for 2015 were at $2 billion at the end of April, which is on par with the first four months of 2014, according to LEDA.
LEDA President and CEO Gregg Gothreaux said the dip in retail sales seems to be fallout from weak oil prices.
“With that being said, we don’t expect a bad year for total retail sales,” Gothreaux said. “While our forecasting model shows sales will not reach the $6 billion threshold, we should end the year near 2011 totals.”
