Students place in skills competition

LAFAYETTE — Students from the W.D. and Mary Baker Smith Career Center were recognized for their vocational skills during the SkillsUSA state championship competition held earlier this month in New Orleans.

Students Seth Stelly and Jasmine Wagnon placed first and second respectively in fashion design. Jany Trahan placed third in photography and also was elected to serve as a state officer in the 2013-14 school year.

SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization that partners students, teachers and industry representatives to help students excel and prepare for careers in technical, skilled and service occupations.
