The Leadership Institute of Acadiana and OneAcadiana, a regional economic development agency in Lafayette, are accepting applications for area professionals and others wishing to learn about Lafayette.

The “Intro Lafayette” program is designed to help transplants, emerging professionals and other newcomers learn about Lafayette. The 1½-day class will run from noon to 5 p.m. June 23 and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 24. The application fee is $195. Registration will run until June 9 or until the class is filled.

Lafayette camp open

The Lafayette Department of Parks and Recreation is putting on a summer camp for those with special needs who are 7 to 25 years old at the Heymann Recreation Center, 1500 S. Orange St., in Lafayette. The program will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 4 through July 24 at a cost of $265 per person.

Extended care hours run for early drop-off from 7:15 a.m. to 9 a.m. each day and costs an extra $75. Late pickups from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. also costs an additional $75.

Summer camp is open to those with mental, emotional or physical disabilities who have a degree of independence.

Theater group hosts comedy

The Iberia Performing Arts League is presenting “The Rainmaker” for its theater season finale.

The play, a romantic comedy, is running Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and on Sunday at 3 p.m. at Essanee Theatre in downtown New Iberia.

AcA to host musical

The Tea Slippers Theatre Co. is putting on the musical “Spring Awakening” at the Acadiana Center for the Arts’ Moncus Stage.

The musical explores the hardships of a small provincial German town in 1891 through the universal journey that adolescents make to adulthood.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday.

Group seeks poster artist

The Greater Iberia Chamber of Commerce is calling all artists interested in creating the 2015 poster for the 26th annual World Championship Gumbo Cook-off.

Artists are asked to submit untitled works that include a Tabasco bottle in the art by 4:30 p.m. June 24. Tabasco is a sponsor of the cook-off.

Top prize is $500.
