LAFAYETTE — Soap opera star Kate Linder of “The Young and the Restless” will be a special guest of honor at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s Beaux Arts Ball at 7 p.m. Oct. 12 at River Oaks Event Center, according to a ULL news release.

Linder has played the soap’s bumbling but good-hearted maid Esther Valentine since 1982.

Linder will join in the celebration of her friend and colleague, Joe Stewart, who is the College of the Arts’ 2012 SPARK Lifetime Achievement Award winner. The Beaux Arts Ball is a fundraiser of the College of the Arts and will feature music by The Nouveau String Band, food and student performances.

A special performance by The Divas, a special group of sponsors, will pay homage to Stewart, soap operas and grand operas in a costumed pageant, according to the release.

Stewart attended Cathedral Carmel High School and the university before completing his degree in design at Carnegie Mellon University. Stewart is an award-winning set designer whose credits include the soap opera, “Days of Our Lives” and numerous other television productions.

He and his partner John Shaffner have received three Primetime Emmy Awards for David Copperfield specials and one for the “The George Lopez Show,” three Daytime Emmy Awards for “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” one for the “George and Alana Show,” an Art Director’s Guild Award and a Los Angeles Area Emmy Award.

Tickets to the ball are $75 per person and $600 for a table of eight. Tickets may be ordered at (337) 482-6224.
