A special prayer service for the start of hurricane season will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.

The Rev. Chester Arceneaux, pastor of the cathedral, will lead the prayer service and deliver the homily.

“This year marks the 10-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita. Please join us to pray for continued safety and to thank God for his grace and protection for our area,” organizers said in a news release.

Similar prayer services have been scheduled across the Diocese of Lafayette.
