A Lafayette Parish grand jury indicted three people in two unrelated murder cases this week.

Sergio Vasquez, 30, was charged with second-degree murder, and Magdalena Huerta Rojas, 26, faces a principal to second-degree murder charge in the May shooting death of 30-year-old Martin Dominguez.

Dominguez was found with multiple gunshot wounds lying outside his apartment in the Iles des Cannes apartment complex near Scott, according to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Vasquez and Rojas, both of Rosenburg, Texas, told detectives that they drove to the Lafayette area to confront Dominguez, with whom they had a “volatile relationship,” Sheriff’s Office spokesman Craig Stansbury said at the time of shooting.

No further information was available on the charges.

In another case before the grand jury this week, Darrell Wayne Shelvin, 23, of Lafayette, was indicted on a second-degree murder charge in the August shooting death of 37-year-old Arthella James Moore.

Lafayette Police said the men were involved in a disturbance about 6 a.m. Aug. 5 on East Foch Street and that Moore was shot once in the stomach.

He died later at a hospital.
