Candidates for Lafayette city-parish president, several council seats and sheriff are set to participate in a series of forums next week at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

The forums, sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Lafayette and the UL-Lafayette College of Liberal Arts, begin Monday with the candidates for city-parish president: state Rep. Joel Robideaux, R-Lafayette, and City-Parish Chief Administrative Officer Dee Stanley.

They are vying to replace City-Parish President Joey Durel, who is serving his third and final term.

A sheriff’s candidate forum is scheduled for Wednesday, with candidates Rick Chargois, John Rogers, Chad Leger and Mark Garber.

They are running to succeed Lafayette Parish Sheriff Mike Neustrom, who is not seeking re-election.

A forum for City-Parish Council District 6 is scheduled for Thursday.

Forums for District 7 and District 8 are set for Sept. 21, and District 2 and District 3 are set for Sept. 23.

Council districts 1, 4 and 9 are uncontested.

The District 5 forum was canceled because all the candidates could not attend.

The forums, which are free and open to the public, will be from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Griffin Hall.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

Parking is available in the garage behind Griffin Hall.
