A kick-off event for the Lafayette Public Library’s annual summer reading program is set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 30 at the South Regional Library on Johnston Street.

Activities will include a magic show, crafts, face painting, a petting zoo and a fun jump.

Job fair

The Lafayette Economic Development Authority will host a job fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Cajundome Convention Center in Lafayette.

Dozens of employers will be on hand, and seminars for job seekers are scheduled throughout the day.

Republican Women’s Club

The Acadiana Republican Women’s Club will hold a luncheon at 11 a.m. Tuesday at River Oaks, 520 E. Kaliste Saloom Road, in Lafayette.

The speakers are Jessie Morton, the legislative chairman for the National Federation of Republican Women, and state Trooper Hal Hutchinson, who will speak about human trafficking.

New York University professor Caroline McGee will teach an acting workshop June 18-21 at Cité Des Arts in downtown Lafayette.

All ages and levels of experiences are welcome.

Tour du Teche

Registration opened Monday for the annual Tour du Teche race down the Bayou Teche for kayaks, canoes, paddle boards and pirogues.

The race begins Oct. 3.

Participants may sign up for the entire race from Port Barre to Berwick or for shorter segments.

Acadia General CEO

Heather Harper has been tapped as the new CEO of Acadia General Hospital in Crowley effective June 16, Lafayette General Health announced Monday.

Harper will oversee the transition of Acadia General Hospital from the American Legion Corp. to Lafayette General Health, which signed an agreement this month to take over management of the facility.

Harper is CEO of Southern Tennessee Medical and Emerald Hodgson Hospital in Winchester, Tennessee.

Midweek markets

The Lafayette Farmers and Artisans Market, generally open on Saturday mornings, will offer Wednesday markets from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in June and July.

The first midweek market at the Horse Farm property is set for June 4.
