LAFAYETTE — Sprint has teamed up with LUS Fiber to offer discounted wireless services to LUS Fiber customers, officials announced Monday.
During a Monday morning news conference, a Sprint official hailed it as a first of its kind program for the telecommunication company.
“This agreement actually affords Lafayette Utilities System Fiber customers to take advantage of our products and services at a discounted rate,” said Lori-Anne Hill, Sprint’s director of federal and public sector sales in the Southeast and Central regions.
Any qualified new or current LUS Fiber business customers or current Sprint residential customers who use LUS Fiber services are eligible for 10 percent discounts on Sprint wireless service plans, Hill said.
Business customers who buy equipment and services for their employees are eligible for additional savings, which include waived activation fees, discounted device upgrades and 20 percent discount on accessories at the time of activation, according to a news release.
Some restrictions may apply and the discounted rates are subject to conditions, the release said.
“This public/private collaboration is one of those steps … that will save our citizens money and obviously be beneficial to a private company,” Lafayette City-Parish President Joey Durel said.
To have an internationally acclaimed company like Sprint reach out to Lafayette is another testament to the investment Lafayette made in its fiber optic network, Durel said.
“This is the sort of thing we’ve all been looking forward to,” Durel said.
The director of Lafayette Utilities System and LUS Fiber, Terry Huval, said the collaboration will mean additional savings for LUS Fiber customers who use Sprint’s wireless products and services.
“We are so excited to be partnering with this international company that’s seen the value of what we bring to the table,” Huval said.
