The Lafayette-based regional economic development organization One Acadiana announced Monday it has hired corporate recruitment specialist Jim Bourgeois from the Baton Rouge Area Chamber.

Bourgeois, 34, will serve as executive director of business development for One Acadiana, formerly the Greater Lafayette Chamber of Commerce, said Jason El Koubi, One Acadiana’s president and chief executive, in a news release Monday.

One Acadiana represents nine parishes: Lafayette, Iberia, St. Mary, St. Martin, St. Landry, Vermilion, Jefferson Davis, Acadia and Evangeline.

“In his new role, Bourgeois will be responsible for all business attraction, retention and expansion initiatives for One Acadiana,” El Koubi said.

Bourgeois, who started work Monday, had been with the Baton Rouge Area Chamber since 2011. While at BRAC, Bourgeois was in charges of numerous programs, including corporate lead generation and business intelligence.

Before joining BRAC, Bourgeois was a research analyst at Louisiana Economic Development.

“I’m looking forward to learning more about the Acadiana region and getting up to speed as quickly as possible,” Bourgeois said. “Acadiana has a ton of potential and some great leadership in place at the local and regional level, so it will be a privilege to work with these individuals as we promote the region on the national stage.”

Bourgeois’ position will be funded by The Campaign for One Acadiana, a five-year membership drive that pulled in $15 million from businesses and economic development organizations to fund the nine-parish agency.

El Koubi said One Acadiana last year began searching for the right business development specialist to lead the new regional organization.

“He is an exceptional professional who will direct our efforts to proactively recruit and retain businesses in close collaboration with our partners across the nine-parish region,” El Koubi said. “Jim will play a major role in taking our regional economic development efforts to the next level.”

Bourgeois received undergraduate and MBA degrees from LSU. He and his wife, Jenee, have three young children.
