Much of south Louisiana, including the Lafayette area, has been put under a freeze watch for Thursday evening through Friday morning.
In Acadiana on Wednesday, residents woke up to temperatures in the high 50s and by afternoon it had dropped to 46 degrees with an overnight low forecast at 39 degrees.
According to the National Weather Service, a very cold mass of air is on its way to the area and will lead to much colder temperatures. Low temperatures are likely to drop below freezing Thursday evening along and north of Interstate 10 and Interstate 12.
Temperatures in Lafayette are expected to dip to 30 degrees Thursday night and then to 32 degrees Friday night.
The weekend could see some relief with rainy weather possible on Saturday and Sunday with lows around 53 degrees Saturday night and 43 degrees Sunday.
Cool weather reappears Monday night with a low around 32 degrees.
