Breaux Bridge will be the site of a citywide garage sale and outdoor flea market this weekend.

Garage sales will be held in yards, garages and parking lots throughout the city on Saturday and Sunday.

The flea market is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Veterans Park, across from Breaux Bridge City Hall.

The event is sponsored by the Breaux Bridge Chamber of Commerce.

Meet the candidates

The Milton Civic Organization will host a forum for local political candidates at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Milton Civic Center.

The group has invited candidates in the City-Parish Council races for districts 8 and 9, the sheriff’s race and the race for 15th Judicial District Court Division M, a family court seat.

Participants may submit questions for candidates upon arrival.

Admission is free, but seating is limited.

The election will be held Oct. 22.

Pancake breakfast

The Kiwanis Club of Acadiana will hold its annual Zydeco Pancake Breakfast fundraiser from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Oct. 15 at Acadian Village in Lafayette.

Music will be provided by Chubby Carrier and the Bayou Swamp Band.

Tickets are $5 for pancakes, sausage and drinks.

Proceeds benefit the Children’s Shelter in Lafayette and help support the Kiwanis’ effort to put defibrillators in area schools.


School tax forum

Lafayette Parish School Board member Hunter Beasley will hold a forum at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the South Regional Library on Johnston Street to discuss the school tax proposition on the Oct. 22 ballot.

The $561 million bond proposition will fund the initial phase of major construction, renovations and repair work outlined in the school system’s facilities master plan.

The proposition includes a 23-mill property tax for the construction and repair plan and a separate two-mill property tax dedicated for maintenance.

A televised panel discussion on the bond proposition that was held earlier this month will re-air at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday on Acadiana Open Channel AOC 2.

New LEDA chairman

Jerry Prejean has been elected chairman of the Lafayette Economic Development Authority Board of Commissioners for 2011-2012.

Prejean, who has served on the LEDA board since 2007, is senior vice president and private banking manager at IberiaBank.
