The Lafayette Association of Principals has organized a blood drive to help support victims of last week’s theater shootings.
The Lourdes Blood Center blood drive is scheduled Thursday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at David Thibodaux STEM Magnet Academy, 805 Teurlings Drive, and donations will help offset medical costs of shooting victims.
One blood donation can save up to three lives.
Monetary credit is also applied for blood donations and can help offset medical bills at Lourdes or may be applied to other medical facilities.
Following Thursday’s mass shooting at the Grand 16 Theatre, Lourdes, Lafayette General Medical Center and Regional Medical Center of Acadiana received the injured — some shot multiple times.
Donors must be in good health, at least 17 and weigh at least 115 pounds.
Individuals with high blood pressure (below 180/100) or controlled diabetes can now donate.
Donors should drink a lot of fluids and eat before donating. Photo identification also is required.
If you have medical questions or have been out of the country, call (337) 470-4483 to determine donor eligibility.
