Garbage and recycling collections are not scheduled for New Year’s Day, so customers who typically receive services on Thursday will have pick-up on Friday.

Regular Friday customers will receive collection on Saturday.

Excess garbage collection will be available to customers on their first service day after New Year’s Day until Jan. 7.

Artificial Christmas trees will be collected with the excess waste until Jan. 7 and after that date, the fake trees will be collected during residents’ monthly bulky waste collection.

Natural Christmas trees will be collected on customers’ regularly scheduled garbage collection. The trees must be stripped of lights and ornaments. The collected natural trees will be processed into mulch.

The Lafayette Consolidated Government compost facility also will be closed on New Year’s Day and reopen on Friday. Through February, the facility will be open on the first Saturday of each month.

Transit service unavailable Thursday

Lafayette Transit System service will not be available on New Year’s Day.

The suspension of services for the holiday includes daytime, night owl and para-transit services.

While transit offices will be closed for the holiday, approved para-transit system riders will be able to schedule rides.

Regularly scheduled transit services will resume on Friday.
