LAFAYETTE — The Lafayette Police Department went prime time Saturday night during the season premiere of the TV show “Cops.”

Police Cpl. Paul Mouton said the department will be featured in six segments this season.

The first segment aired Saturday.

The segment focused on a call about a suspicious vehicle with two people inside at a local hotel, Mouton said.

“Two arrests were made, one for soliciting for prostitution and one for prostitution,” Mouton said.

The filming lasted for eight weeks and began in May, Mouton said.

The TV crew rode with officers Tuesday through Saturday in the evening hours, Mouton said.

Appearing on the show was something that both the administration and the department’s administration were in favor of, Mouton said.

“It gives us an opportunity to show how professional our officers are,” Mouton said.

Mouton could not say when the remaining five segments would air this season.
