Retails sales in Lafayette Parish for the first quarter of 2015 are up 1.9 percent over the first quarter of 2014, the Lafayette Economic Development Authority reported Thursday.

Retail sales in the parish this year hit $1.51 billion as of the end of March, compared with $1.48 billion for the first three months of last year, according to figures from LEDA.

Sales for March alone came in at about $555 million, up 1.1 percent over March 2014, according to LEDA.

LEDA President and CEO Gregg Gothreaux said he expected retails sales to be near $6 billion by the end of 2015.

Retail sales in Lafayette Parish hit $6.41 billion in 2014, beating the earlier record set in 2013 of $6 billion in sales.
