Six people were not injured after lightning struck their Youngsville home Saturday night, sparking a fire, KATC-TV reported.

Firefighters from Youngsville, Milton and Broussard responded to the 200 block of Revere Drive about 6:30 p.m., where the house was on fire, Fire Chief Blair Rivette said.

The homeowner told KATC the fire began after lightning struck the house and overloaded the home’s electrical system.

Slain basketball star laid to rest Saturday

Bianca Davis, the former University of Louisiana at Lafayette basketball star fatally shot earlier this month outside a St. Martinville club, was laid to rest Saturday in her hometown of Cecilia, KATC-TV reported.

Friends and family of Davis, 23, also participated in a “Put the Guns Down” march on Dernier and Washington streets Saturday.

Davis was killed June 14 while leaving The Casino Lounge after shots rang out inside the club, injuring one person. As she drove away with three teens in the car, several more shots were fired, including the one that struck Davis in the back of the head.

Jamir Sophus, 18, has been arrested and booked on a count of second-degree murder in firing the fatal shot and two counts of attempted second-degree murder. His twin brother, Jakil Sophus, has been arrested on attempted first-degree murder and aggravated second-degree battery.
