The Jeanerette Board of Aldermen has appointed Jeffery Matthews, a deputy in its Marshal’s Office, as the city’s police chief.

Matthews served as a deputy marshal since 2010 and as a deputy in the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s office from 2005-2010.

He was chosen from a field of four applicants following the resignation of former chief Marvin Grogan after his May arrest in the Lipstick Gentlemen’s Club case in Lafayette.
