The Lafayette Police Department will conduct a Police Memorial Day Ceremony at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church at 6 p.m. Thursday.
The public is invited.
Relatives of slain officers will attend, along with law enforcement officers from agencies surrounding Lafayette.
A police motorcade will depart from the Lafayette Police Department at 5:30 p.m. and travel to the church.
The service is being dedicated to the 19 Acadiana-area officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty since 1926.
Free skin cancer screening
The Lafayette Community Health Care Clinic will host its third annual skin cancer screening from 9 a.m. until noon at the clinic, 1317 Jefferson St., Lafayette.
The screening is free and open to all people on a first-come, first-serve basis, with no eligibility requirements.
RSVPs are requested and can be made via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The screening is being done through a partnership between the Lafayette affiliates of the American Academy of Dermatology and the Acadiana Healthy Communities Coalition.
Our Lady of Wisdom Catholic Church will conduct a mass celebrating this year’s University of Louisiana at Lafayette four-year degree earners at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
The church is at 501 E. St. Mary Blvd. Spring 2014 graduates and their families are welcome.
A wine and cheese reception will take place in the Catholic Student Center after the mass.
Parking is available at the Earl K. Long Gym lot on Girard Park Circle.
Nonprofit garage sale
The Extra Mile’s Region IV office in Lafayette will have a garage sale over the weekend to benefit local programs.
Toys, bedding, office supplies, books and other items will be sold from noon to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, and from 7 a.m. until noon Sunday.
The Extra Mile’s office is at 525 Buchanan St.
