Portions of the roundabout at East Milton Avenue and Chemin Metairie Parkway will be closed beginning Monday for reconstruction, Youngsville officials announced Wednesday.

Westbound traffic will be blocked for the first phase of construction, and eastbound traffic will be blocked during the second phase.

Detour routes will be marked.

The work, expected to stretch for more than a month, comes after Youngsville officials in March announced pavement at the roundabout and nearby portions of Chemin Metairie were crumbling prematurely about five years after construction.

Youngsville Mayor Wilson Viator has said the damage is believed to have been caused by higher-than-expected traffic from dump trucks and other heavy equipment linked to new residential developments and the construction of the city’s new sports complex.
