A Lafayette businessman has been sentenced to three years in prison for double billing the Calcasieu Parish school system for leased copiers.

Leonard Espree, 53, also was ordered to pay $197,387 in restitution, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Prosecutors said Espree, who had a contract with the school system, intentionally billed twice for copier services.

He pleaded guilty in January to one count of mail fraud and was sentenced Friday by U.S. District Judge Donald Walter.
