The Junior League of Lafayette is offering grants of up to $1,000 and four to six volunteers to local nonprofit groups for projects that can be completed in one day.
The “Done in a Day” grant projects must be completed between Sept. 15 and April 30.
The deadline to apply is Friday.
The assistance is available only for projects and agencies in Lafayette Parish.
The money cannot be used for fundraising projects.

Booth space at job fair
Booth space is available for employers interested in participating in the 2011 Lafayette Economic Development Authority job fair.
The job fair is scheduled for Aug. 17 at the Cajundome Convention Center in Lafayette.
The event last year attracted about 2,600 job seekers, according to information from LEDA.

Avery Island history
A presentation is scheduled for July 12 at Vermilionville in Lafayette on the history and culture of Avery Island, where the family-owned McIlhenny Co. has been producing Tabasco pepper sauce for more than a century.
The presentation is scheduled to run from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
McIlhenny Co. archivist Shane Bernard and family members Lisa Osborn and Dan Duncan will share stories about life on the island.
The presentation, which is free, is part of the “In Your Own Backyard” series organized by the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s Center for Cultural and Eco-Tourism.

New arts manager
Lafayette city-parish government hired Brian McGrath this month as its new arts and culture manager.
He will manage the Heymann Performing Arts Center and supervise the managers of the Lafayette Science Museum and the Acadiana Nature Station.
McGrath, a native of Lafayette, had been working as general manager of the Texas A&M Reed Arena, according to information from city-parish government.
McGrath replaces Frank Bradshaw, who retired in March.
The Acadiana Center for the Art’s annual Gulf Brew beer festival is scheduled for 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 23 at Parc International in downtown Lafayette.
ACA is still seeking volunteers to help work the event.
