Friends of the Iberia Parish Library will hold its annual “Book Sale on the Bayou” on Friday through Sunday at the Cyr Gates Community Center in New Iberia’s City Park.

A “Friends Only” preview sale will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., but new memberships can be paid at the door.

Public hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Prematurity awareness

A health fair will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Northgate Mall to raise awareness about premature births.

The event is in observance of Prematurity Awareness Month and is sponsored by The Family Tree’s Healthy Start Program and the Fetal and Infant Mortality Review Team.

The event is free and open to the public.

Small business expo

A “Black/Small Business Expo” will be held from 11 am. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center, 309 Cora St.

The event is a way to encourage community support of black- and small-owned businesses, according to organizers.

The event is free and open to the public. Workshops will also be offered on real estate and credit and financial counseling. Door prizes and entertainment are also part of the event.

Proceeds will be donated to Holy Family Catholic School.

Festival of Words

The Festival of Words Book Fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Casa Azul, 232 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Grand Coteau.

The event features sessions with several south Louisiana authors. A children’s workshop will be held at 1 p.m. at Bella Bella Salon & Karma Boutique, 202 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Liberian relief fundraiser

The fundraiser, “Libations for Liberia” benefiting Yassah’s Sisters, a nonprofit that helps women in rural Liberia become economically self-sufficient, will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Blue Moon Saloon.

The event features the music of Jon Cleary and the Philthy Phew, a special appearance by Les Djembes and Liberian fare catered by “A Movable Feast.”
