Seven wounded in shooting at party

Seven people were shot and wounded, though none of them seriously, in a fight during a party at the Woodman of World lodge in Abbeville at about 1 a.m. Sunday, KATC reports.

Deputies said the shooting happened during a birthday party at the lodge in the 300 block of West Woodman Road.

There were about 100 people inside during the incident and the victims suffered non life-threatening injuries, deputies said.

Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon said the victims and witnesses investigators interviewed Sunday provided little information, but says it appears that a fight took place and gun fire was exchanged. Deputies have not released any suspects names.

Anyone with information can call the Sheriff’s Criminal Investigation Division at 898-4402 or 898-4403.

Grenades found in Mamou home

A Mamou homeowner found two grenades in his house Sunday that apparently were left by the house’s previous resident when he moved out weeks earlier, KATC reports.

The Louisiana State Police bomb squad was called to the 800 block of Fourth Street after the homeowner found the grenades while cleaning the house. Authorities set up a perimeter but did not find any further danger.

It is unclear whether the grenades were live explosives.
