An unidentified man’s body was found in the South Atchafalaya River Wednesday morning, the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
The Sheriff’s Office received a call at 10:30 a.m. from a tug boat operator regarding a body floating in an area also known as Pilot Channel, the release said.
The area where the body was found is in the southern part of the parish near Iberia Parish line. Authorities with the Sheriff’s Office and state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries recovered the man’s body shortly before noon, the release said.
An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death, the release said.
The man had not been identified as of Wednesday afternoon, the release said.
