Komen Acadiana race slated Saturday
LAFAYETTE— There’s still time to register for the Susan G. Komen Acadiana Race for the Cure on Saturday at Girard Park.
Registration begins at 7 a.m. A survivor ceremony will be held at 8 a.m. with a race warm-up at 8:20 a.m.
The 1-mile fun run/walk begins at 8:30 a.m. with the 5K race beginning at 9 a.m.
Following the race, there will be games, activities and entertainment for kids and families. The event also features a jambalaya cook-off with the public choosing a People’s Choice winner after sampling teams’ entries.

Social studies fairseeks volunteers
LAFAYETTE— Volunteers are needed for the Region VI Social Studies Fair scheduled April 6 at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
More than 350 elementary, middle and high school students will represent schools from five surrounding parishes and present research projects about anthropology, economics, geography, history, Louisiana history, political science and sociology.

Kicks for Milesdeadline set Friday
LAFAYETTE— Friday is the deadline to purchase boards to break as part of the Kicks for Miles Break-a-thon hosted by Acadiana Karate on March 23 at its studio at 2464 W. Congress St.
The event benefits Miles Perret Cancer Services, which provides emotional support, medical supplies and wellness programs to cancer patients and their families.
Last year, more than 7,000 boards were sold and more than $160,000 has been raised since the event began in 2005.
Boards are $4 and may be purchased at Acadiana Karate. The students will be breaking the boards Saturday in front of a live audience using karate kicks, chops and jabs. Visit: http://acadianakarate.com or call (337) 233-8838.
