Leslie Westbrook, a veteran photographer covering the Lafayette community, has joined The Acadiana Advocate’s team in the city.

Westbrook, who worked as a staff photographer for The Daily Advertiser for nine years, will work with an office of five reporters writing about news and sports in the Lafayette area.

While at the Advertiser, Westbrook covered all kinds of breaking news, from crime to hurricanes, along with sports and other events.

In 2013, he won a national award from Gannett, the newspaper chain that owns the Advertiser, for his coverage of the dramatic rescue of Bethany Arceneaux, who had been kidnapped, held hostage and attacked by an ex-boyfriend.

He also has won multiple awards from the Louisiana Press Association.

Raised in north Louisiana, Westbrook attended Northwestern State University in Natchitoches.
