Vermilionville on Tuesday hosts the “Clean Streams” lecture presented by the Bayou Vermilion Preservation Association and Bayou Vermilion District, two groups focused on preserving and enhancing the Vermilion River while promoting its value as a local cultural amenity.

David Cheramie and Rodney Richard, of the BVD, will give updates on the organization’s current and future projects. The event, beginning at 11:30 a.m. and lasting through the lunch hour, is free and open to the public.

Free T-shirts for blood donors

United Blood Services is offering #LafayetteStrong T-shirts to donors who give blood on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Donations must be made at the Lafayette donor center at 1503 Bertrand Drive from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Schedule an appointment at bloodhero.com or call (337) 235-5433.

Volunteers must be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Donors who are 16 years old must have signed permission from a parent or guardian.

Peek into a solar telescope

Take a closer look at the sun each Wednesday this month with the Lafayette Science Museum’s sidewalk solar telescope.

Skygazers will have the opportunity to peek through the museum’s telescope and glimpse the sun up close from noon to 1 p.m., weather permitting, on the sidewalk outside the museum at 433 Jefferson St. in downtown Lafayette.

The telescope is a free activity for all ages.

Youth sports registrations

Registration continues through Aug. 24 for a number of fall youth sports programs in Lafayette Parish.

Walk-up registration for Southwest Lafayette Youth Sports Inc. is scheduled Aug. 23 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Robicheaux Recreation Center. Carencro Area Youth Sports Inc. offers walk-up registration Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Carencro Park equipment shed.

Walk-up registration is scheduled on Saturday and Aug. 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Aug. 19 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Scott Park conference room for Scott Area Team Sports programs. Southwest Athletics offers walk-up registration on Sunday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Aug. 20 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Judice Park.

Brown Park Athletics offers walk-up registration on Thursday and Aug. 20 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Monday and Aug. 24 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Brown Park board room. Online registration continues for Cajun Sports Association at csalaf.com and Broussard/Youngsville Youth Association at byya.org.

In-person registration for the Lafayette Youth Soccer Association/Cajun Soccer Club continues through Aug. 21 at 200 Sonny Roy Lane in Moore Park from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon on Friday. Online registration is also available at lysasoccer.com.
