The Lafayette Farmers and Artisans Market at the Horse Farm on Johnston Street will offer spring gardening workshops every Saturday in April.

The free workshops begin at 10 a.m. and are open to all ages and experience levels.

Saturday’s workshop is on cut flowers in the home garden.

The April 18 workshop will be on growing grapes and making wine, and the April 25 workshop will offer tips on herb gardening.

The farmers market is open from 8 a.m. to noon every Saturday.

Vermilion boat tours

Vermilionville at the Acadian Cultural Center of the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve will offer boat tours of the Vermilion River through May 30.

The tours, which are available Tuesday through Saturday, depart from Vermilionville at 10:30 a.m. and return at noon.

Garden tour for charity

The Avec Souci civic club is sponsoring a tour of five private gardens from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on May 3 to benefit local charities.

The suggested donation is $15 in advance or $20 the day of the tour.

Proceeds benefit a list of charities that includes the Lourdes Foundation, Camp Bon Couer, Healing House, the Lafayette Community Health Care Clinic, Family Promise, Bridge Ministry, the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra, Special Olympics and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Scholarship Fund.

Chamber concert

The Acadiana Symphony Orchestra will present Grammy Award-winning mezzo-soprano Virginia Warnken at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Acadiana Center for the Arts in downtown Lafayette.

She will perform a program of baroque music with the ASO chamber orchestra.

Warnken also will conduct a master class for University of Louisiana at Lafayette vocal students at 2 p.m. on Friday in the choir room at Angelle Hall on the UL-Lafayette campus.

Earth Day at Vermilionville

The Bayou Vermilion District will celebrate Earth Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on April 19.

The free event features music, boat tours and kids’ activities.

The Society for the Louisiana Iris will host its annual convention in Lafayette from Thursday through Sunday.
