An 18-year-old Lafayette man was shot in the face and killed Saturday when he and a friend were playing with what they thought was an unloaded gun, police said.
The shooting happened at around 2:20 p.m. at a home in the 1600 block of 12th Street in Lafayette. The victim, who had received a single gunshot to the face, was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The shooter, Anthony Beloney, 18, told officers he and his friend were playing with a pistol. Beloney thought the gun was unloaded when he pointed it at his friend and pulled the trigger, police said.
Beloney was arrested on counts of negligent homicide and possession of marijuana, police said.
The victim’s identity was being withheld Saturday pending notifcation of the family.
