Water conservation effort

Lafayette Utilities System’s annual water conservation regulations are in effect through Sept. 30, the public utility announced this month.

Residents with addresses ending in an even number are allowed to use sprinklers and other automated watering systems on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays from midnight to 2 p.m.

Residents with addresses ending in an odd number are allowed to water on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from midnight to 2 p.m.

No watering is allowed on Mondays.

The regulations do not apply to watering with a hand-held hose.

The regulations aim to keep water pressure high enough for the fire hydrant system and to help LUS maintain adequate reserves during the summer, according to LUS.
