Sugar Mill Pond residents are inviting all to its Independence Day Celebration on Thursday evening.

Admission is free. As in years past, the celebration will be capped off by a fireworks show at 9 p.m.

Festivities run from 5:30 p.m. until the fireworks fly.

People will gather at the Sugar Mill Pond Town Center, 101 Waterview Road.

Things to do include face painting, pony rides, live music and hot air balloon rides.

Republican women to meet

Acadiana Republican Women will meet Tuesday for a luncheon at 11 a.m. in Lafayette, which will feature guest speaker state Rep. Paul Hollis, who is running for U.S. Senate.

The luncheon will be held in River Oaks subdivision at 520 E. Kaliste Saloom Road.

Attendees will need $20 to buy lunch, which is being catered.

Zydeco fest set for Saturday

The Lebeau Zydeco Festival will be held Saturday at the Church Grounds in Lebeau.

Gates open at 10:30 a.m., rain or shine, and the party lasts into the night.

Admission is $12 for adults and $5 for children.

Musical guests include Geno Delafose, Step Rideau, Chris Ardoin, Lil Nate and Brian Jack. The music begins at noon.

Festival grounds are on U.S. 71, half a mile past Stelly’s Truck Stop in St. Landry Parish.

Organizers say there will be no refunds. Barbecue pits, all terrain vehicles, glass containers and ice chests are prohibited.

Farmers market offerings

Vendors on Saturday again will offer their produce and other goods at the Horse Farm at 2913 Johnston Street in Lafayette.

The Lafayette Farmers and Artisans Market will open at 8 a.m. and close at noon.

“The Market at The Horse Farm serves as the premier venue for seasonal, farm-based products and artisanal creations, offered by local producers, artists and vendors in a celebratory atmosphere,” according to organizers.

Attractions recognized

Online commercial website TripAdvisor.com has bestowed Iberia Parish restaurants and attractions with a “Certificate of Excellence.”

The restaurants are Jefferson Island Cafe, Bon Creole Seafood, Victor’s Cafeteria, Landry’s Seafood and Steakhouse of New Iberia and R&M’s Boiling Point, according to the Iberia Parish Convention & Visitor’s Bureau.

The attractions are Jefferson Island Rip Van Winkle Gardens, Shadows on the Teche, Tabasco Factory and Country Store and Jungle Gardens of Avery Island.

Hotels in the Parish to receive citation are: La Quinta Inn & Suites and the Holiday Inn Express & Suites.
