A new development of studio apartments built to give artists an affordable place to live and work downtown will hold an open house from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.

The Studios at LWG is a 15-unit complex in a transformed 1920s-era brick warehouse on Olivier Street.

Construction wrapped up in April, and nine of the units are already spoken for, said Rebekke Miller, who is overseeing the project for the Lafayette Public Trust Financing Authority.

Musicians, dancers, painters and other artists will be given preference, and applicants must submit a résumé, samples of artistic work and an artist statement.

A committee of area artists review the applications to verify eligibility.

There are seven one-bedroom apartments and eight two-bedroom apartments, with rents ranging from $490 to $775 a month.
