“Blessed are the Peacemakers” is the theme for the Diocese of Lafayette’s annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Mass and Award Ceremony Celebration at 7 p.m. Friday at St. John Cathedral downtown.

Bishop Michael Jarrell will preside over the program, which pays tribute to 90 people, including a local mayor and a family, who exemplify King’s traits. Deacon Roland Jeanlouis, of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Loreauville, will serve as homilist.

The event is sponsored by the Diocese Office of Black Catholic Ministries.
