A four-person panel that represents budget analysts, government watchdogs, economic development leaders and business professionals will discuss the state’s fiscal situation at the Acadiana Press Club’s monthly meeting Monday in Lafayette.
Panelists include Jason El Koubi, president and CEO of One Acadiana; Jan Moller, director of the Louisiana Budget Project; Robert Scott, president of the Public Affairs Research Council; and Dawn Starns, Louisiana president of the National Federation of Independent Businesses.
Lawmakers began the 2016 regular legislative session with a $2 billion financial shortfall at hand, shortly after they worked through a special session to close all but $70 million of a $900 million shortage through a mixture of tax increases and budget cuts.
The forum begins at noon at The Daily Advertiser’s community room at 1100 Bertrand Drive.
Acadiana Press Club is now accepting nominations for its board and club officers, with elections to take place after the Monday meeting.
The club accepts new members year-round. Obtain a membership form at the meeting or online at acadianapressclub.org.
