GE Oil & Gas said it will lay off 269 of the 289 employees at its Pineville valve manufacturing plant beginning Sept. 2.

The company told the Louisiana Workforce Commission the layoffs should be completed by the end of the year. The employees affected by the layoffs work in manufacturing, sales/service and engineering.

The plant had been operated by Dresser Industries until 2010, when GE bought the company for $3 billion. For the past year, there had been rumors that the plant would close as part of a restructuring.
