Its latest in-state acquisition was Teche Federal in nearby New Iberia, but its also been aggressively acquiring out-of-state banks to become a regional player in the industry.

Lafayette-based IberiaBank is creating a regional headquarters in Hoover, Alabama, that will eventually house more than 450 employees.

IberiaBank has outgrown its Birmingham location and will move the 225 employees who work there to an existing 130,000-square-foot office building in Hoover, according to bank officials. The company also plans to consolidate more than 225 jobs from throughout the Southeast to Hoover. None of those positions will come from Louisiana, officials said. The other states IberiaBank operates in are Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama, Texas, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.

The new facility will accommodate a number of support workers and expand the substantial operations office that was in Birmingham, said spokeswoman Beth Ardoin.
