A former Evangeline Parish prosecutor has been disbarred from practicing law in Louisiana after a state board found malpractice in his private legal work.

The Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board found Timmy Fontenot settled a personal injury case without his clients' consent, forged their signatures on the settlement documents, misled them about the case's status, and failed to disburse the settlement proceeds for five years, according to the Supreme Court's disbarment.

Because of those findings, the Louisiana Supreme Court late last month ordered Fontenot disbarred, his name stricken from the roll of attorneys and his license revoked. On Dec. 14, the court then denied a rehearing for Fontenot.
