A Georgia truck driver was killed Sunday morning in Acadia Parish after the commercial truck he was driving ran off the side of Interstate 10, struck a tree and burst into flames, police said.
The driver, 63-year-old Michael Ransom of Villa Rica, Georgia, was pronounced dead at the scene. Ransom had been driving a 2010 International Tractor Trailer westbound on I-10 west of LA Highway 91 at the time of the crash, according to a release from the Louisiana State Police.
The cause of the crash, which occurred shortly before 9:40 a.m., remains under investigation. Police said driver impairment is not suspected to have contributed to the fatal wreck.
