Lafayette Police on Tuesday arrested 26-year-old Jeantrell Pierson in the March 16 shooting death of John Jones.

Jones, 45, of Lafayette, was found with a gunshot wound to the chest around 2 a.m. in the 100 block of Hansel Drive. Witnesses told police at the time that the shooter fled in Jones’ car, which was later found abandoned in a motel parking lot.

Pierson was previously booked on Oct. 26 on a count of taking contraband to or from a penal institution, and for violating parole. He was being held in Lafayette Parish Correctional Center at the time he was arrested for the homicide.

Pierson faces one count of second-degree murder and is being held on $250,000 bond.
