Church Point police are searching for a man who is a suspect in a downtown shooting Sunday afternoon that left one person dead.

Church Point Police Chief Albert Venable said the shooting occurred at 4:28 p.m. at the corner of North Main and Sunrise streets. He did not identify the victim, but Venable said police are looking for 19-year-old Donald “ Dino” R. Gotche Jr., of Church Point, who is the primary suspect in the shooting.

Police said there were other people in a gray four-door older model Oldsmobile Delta 88, but they did not say what role the passengers in the car played in the shooting, according to a news release.

He said the investigation is continuing.
