A Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s corrections officer is on unpaid leave after admitting to storming past his ex-wife and into a Youngsville man’s home, where he punched the man in the face.

Johnathan Lavoi, 38, was arrested early Saturday morning at his home at 1901 Eraste Landry Road on a count of home invasion, according to his affidavit for arrest released on Monday. The incident took place around midnight Friday at a home in the 1200 block of Marteau Road in Youngsville.

Lavoi’s ex-wife reported to authorities that Lavoi entered the Youngsville home without permission, went into the man’s bedroom and punched him in the face with a closed fist, the affidavit states. The man suffered a cut on his lip.

Lavoi later admitted to deputies he entered the man’s home “extremely angry” and admitted to throwing the punch, the affidavit states. He had been released from the Lafayette Parish jail on Monday morning on a $5,000 bond.

Lavoi will remain on unpaid administrative leave while the investigation is ongoing, according to a news release from the Sheriff’s Office.
