Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies are investigating a single-vehicle accident in New Iberia that has resulted in the deaths of four people and injuries to a 7-year-old child, KATC-TV reported.

The accident happened just before 5 p.m. Saturday at South Lewis Street and Connie Rue Road.

Officials first reported several injuries and one fatality when they arrived on the scene. However, three other occupants have been pronounced dead at local hospitals, KATC-TV reported.

Acadian Ambulance reported it transported patients from two vehicles.

“We transported four patients in two vehicles,” said Brent Hill, operations supervisor in the communications center at Acadian Ambulance. Hill had no further details.

The 7-year-old occupant of the vehicle was air-lifted to a Lafayette hospital and is being treated for injuries, KATC-TV reported.

KATC-TV reported that of the four dead, one is a 49-year-old man and another an 8-month-old.
