A Jeanerette man accused of shooting at a woman and hitting her in the head with a handgun at a Charenton home surrendered to authorities on Wednesday night.

Terrance J. Derouen, 22, of 10312 Old Jeanerette Rd., was booked around 7 p.m. on a count of attempted second-degree murder in the incident, which happened around 1 a.m. earlier in the day, according to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators said Derouen approached the home on Joe White Road while screaming and cursing, then fired his weapon toward the woman multiple times, damaging the home, before hitting her in the head with the gun, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Derouen fled the scene before deputies arrived but surrendered to the Baldwin Police Department that night.

Derouen remained in the St. Mary Parish jail on Thursday morning on additional counts of aggravated battery and aggravated criminal damage to property, according to booking records. No bail is set.
