A Jeanerette shooting victim arrested in Abbeville on Wednesday is accused of shooting and injuring another man before someone returned fire and hit him, the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office announced late Wednesday.

Authorities located Kendall Hines, 34, of 1016 Cypremort Road, at an Abbeville residence and arrested him on counts of attempted second-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and aggravated criminal damage to property in the Sunday shooting in Four Corners that left another 30-year-old man injured, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Detectives learned Hines was involved in an argument with several people on Jones Road No. 2 when he fired several rounds, striking the 30-year-old man before another person opened fire on Hines, the Sheriff’s Office said. The second shooter has not been identified.

Deputies investigating the Sunday shooting sent the 30-year-old to a hospital via ambulance, after which Hines soon sought treatment at a Franklin hospital for his own gunshot wounds, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Hines was transferred Wednesday to the St. Mary Parish jail and remained there on Thursday afternoon. Bond had not been set.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information on the crime may contact the St. Mary Parish Sheriff’s Office at (337) 828-1960 or (985) 384-1622 or send an anonymous tip to crimewatch@stmaryso.com.
