A pedestrian in St. Martin Parish discovered possibly human remains on Friday, the sheriff’s office said.

The pedestrian called 911 about 2 p.m. Friday to report the remains, found in an area off Leland Road, a news release from the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office says.

“It appears that the remains were there for an extended period of time,” the release says.

Investigators recovered the remains and will send them to the LSU Forensics Anthropology and Computer Enhancement Services Laboratory for further verification.

“The investigation remains ongoing and there will be no further information available until the results come back from the lab,” the release says.
