CROWLEY —Crowley authorities are looking for a scam artist who they say is calling businesses claiming to be a police detective who needs the businesses’ credit card information, officials said.
Police Chief K.P. Gibson said the caller, whose phone number is blocked, claims to be a detective with the police department’s fraud unit.
Gibson said the attempt to fraudulently get financial information is a felony, and detectives are working to identify the person.
“Detectives will not call over the phone for sensitive information, especially credit card numbers,” Gibson said in a news release Wednesday.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers of Acadia Parish at (337) 789-8477, which is offering a $1,000 reward.
