A Lafayette motorcyclist arrested Tuesday is accused of leading State Police on a high-speed chase in excess of 100 mph on Interstate 10 from Iowa to Welsh.
Luis Santiago-Rosario, 29, was booked into the Calcasieu Parish jail on reckless operation, speeding and resisting an officer, along with a number of counts related to his illegal operation of an unregistered motorcycle, according to a news release from State Police.
Santiago-Rosario was driving the motorcycle with a switched license plate and without a driver’s license, insurance or tags on the motorcycle, police said.
Santiago-Rosario sped from a trooper around 10:30 a.m. and began passing vehicles on the shoulder after the trooper tried to stop him for blocking the flow of traffic in the left lane of I-10 near Iowa, police said.
No injuries or damage were reported.
